1. OBJECTIVES 1.1. ELIMINATION OF RESIDUES The technique achieves the evacuation of all solids which are stuck to the mucosa or retained within the intestine, such as: - Vegetable or fruit seeds - Foreign bodies swallowed: plastic, metal objects, etc.-  Fecaloma (a "stone" made of feces, is a hardening of feces into lumps of varying size inside the colon, which may appear whenever chronic obstruction of transit occurs, such as in megacolon and chronic constipation). This allows better visibility in the interior of the colon. 1.2. ELIMINATION OF GASES This brings two additional advantages: - Improves the manipulation of the scope by allowing greater penetration. - Reduces tension in the large intestine, which means that the patient will be more comfortable during the operation. 1.3. ELIMINATION OF COLOURATION AND DAMAGED MUCOSA This allows the observation of a cleaner intestine wall with greater objectivity resulting from the visual impression or diagnosis. 2. METHOD In 95% of cases it is necessary and sufficient to carry out THREE colonic hydrotherapy sessions lasting between 40 to 60 minutes, with a period of 3 to 7 days between each one. The first session eliminates the residue in the rectosigmoide and the descending colon. The second session cleans the splenic flexure and the transverse colon. With the third session, complete intestinal cleansing is achieved with the evacuation of the hepatic flexure, the ascending colon, and especially the cecum, which has the greatest accumulation of detritus. Even if the section to be examined is lower down the tract, it is advisable for the full cycle of colonic hydrotherapy to be completed. The period between the last session and the scope should be as short as possible, less than 7 days.  In order to obtain better results we usually recommend to have rectal ozone therapy after each session when the colon is clean.   CLICK THE FOLLOWING LINKS FOR MORE INFORMATION: 1.- HISTORY 2.- EFFECTS 3.- PATHOLOGIES 4.- CLASSIFICATION OF THE CONTENTS OF THE INTESTINES 5.- COLON CLEANSING BEFORE COLONOSCOPY   References Vassey, C. 1992.
